California Administrative Codes that require regulatory inspections
Objective:
The objective of this Practice Directive is to define procedures for responding to regulatory agency inspections.
Statement:
Federal, State, and Local regulations require regulatory agencies to periodically inspect businesses.
The types of inspections SFSU typically encounters fall into the following categories:
1. Permit compliance and/or renewal inspections (BAAQMD, CUPA, SFDPH)
2. Hazardous materials / hazardous waste storage inspections (CUPA, SFDPH)
3. Fire safety inspections (Cal-Fire, SFFD)
4. Occupational health & safety inspections (Cal/OSHA)
Inspectors may call ahead to make an appointment, or may show up unannounced.
Permit renewal inspections are often scheduled in advance, and are a mandatory part of the permit renewal process.
Safety (Cal/OSHA) inspections are generally unannounced, usually resulting from an employee complaint or following a workplace accident. Their inspection format is very structured and formal.
